Mural Project Planned for Saturday
All 5/4/2017

Mayor Joe Hogsett is scheduled to thank dozens of volunteers Saturday who will be beautifying the neighborhood surrounding Hawthorne Community Center on the Near Westside.  The volunteers will first repair or replace fences for homeowners surrounding the center who have asked for assistance.  Then, Indy Convergence will lead the volunteers in the painting of murals on those fences.   It’s hoped up to six murals will be completed by the end of the day.

The mural project is being paid for with donations to Hawthorne Community Center, including a Central Indiana Community Foundation (CICF) grant on behalf of the Indianapolis Business Journal’s 2017 Forty Under 40 class. The event is also sponsored by Carter-Lee Lumber and Immaculate Heart of Mary.

“When Hawthorne Community Center recently wrapped up its $3.7 million Capital Campaign, we decided to keep the momentum going and help our neighbors spruce up their fences,” said Hawthorne Community Center Executive Director Diane Arnold.  “Five local artists have sketched out the murals and will receive a small stipend.  However, their work will bring priceless joy to all in the Hawthorne neighborhood.”
