The mission of the Hawthorne Community Center is to provide and facilitate services and programs that address the economic, educational, financial, social, recreational and cultural needs of the entire Hawthorne community.

Our History

Hawthorne Community Center has been an integral part of Indianapolis’ westside community since 1923, when 50 neighborhood residents started with a strip of land called Flack’s Pasture. Instead of becoming a railroad coal dump, it was turned into a resource for the community.

July 4th – Fourth of July Holiday
September 4th – Labor Day
November 23 – 24th – Thanksgiving Holiday
December 25 – 26th – Christmas Holiday
January 1st, 2024 – New Year’s Day

Hawthorne will NOT have any Early Childhood or School Age programs on the following days: December 27th, 28th, 29th

Hawthorne Community Center Boundaries are:

White River Parkway to the East,
Raceway Road to the West,
38th Street to the North,
and Thompson Road to the South
