Adult Education Classes & Tutoring

Escape low wage jobs and earn a living wage. We can help you increase your paycheck through education, training programs, and career planning. We help members identify training opportunities, enroll in school, and access the financial supports needed to complete courses successfully.

Orientation

Learn more about how we can help you reach your goals be attending one our weekly orientations. These one to two hour-long orientations will introduce members to our program, the resources available to help them achieve their educational, financial and career goals, and place students in a class based on a brief assessment.

Our orientations are held several times a month. For specific dates & times, refer to the mini-calendar in the sidebar or select from the Calendar drop-down on the main menu bar.

Tuition & Fees

Adult education classes and tutoring are available FREE of charge. Students are asked to become members of Hawthorne, with a $5 registration fee. Membership includes access to all of our programs & services.

HSE (GED®) High School Equivalency Classes & Tutoring

Hawthorne offers High School Equivalency (GED®) classes to the community with evening and daytime options available. Licensed instructors work with students to help them pass the HSE / HiSET® exam, succeed on the job, earn career certifications or complete college.

English Language Learner (ELL) Classes

Our English Language Learner (ELL) classes teach speaking, listening, reading & writing skills to immigrants and others. We give students the skills they need to help their children with school, get a job or keep their job, study for a high school equivalency diploma, become a citizen, or enter college.

Monday and Wednesday evenings, 5:30 – 9:00 p.m.

Speak with a Spanish language staff member from 3pm – 6pm, Monday to Friday.

Adult Tutoring & Career Development

We offer personalized adult tutoring to help members improve their reading, language arts and math skills.  Tutoring can be targeted to help people pass college placement exams, qualify for WorkOne-funded training, or prepare for employment tests.

We help members further their career goals, with assistance in writing a resume or cover letter, practicing basic computer skills, searching for a job, or preparing for an interview.
